This are some of the causes of OSA:
The cause of OSA comprises interactions between genetic, environmental and patient factors. A small upper airway predisposes to OSA. This can be due to a larger neck size and obesity.
Conditions which appear to predispose to OSA include hypothyroidism and acromegaly. Tonsillar enlargement and retrognathia (where the lower jaw lies relatively posterior to the frontal plane of the forehead) are two common mechanical predisposing factors.
OSA can also originate from the larynx, although this is much rarer. It may be due to abnormalities of laryngeal nerves or mechanical obstruction within the larynx.

-A lower jaw that is short compared to the upper jaw (retrognathia)
-Certain shapes of the palate or airway that cause the airway to be narrower or collapse more easily
-Large tonsils and adenoids in children that can block the airway
-Large neck or collar size (17 inches or more in men and 16 inches or more in women)
-Large tongue, which may fall back and block the airway
-Obesity
